5th Jan - Beginner Level - Cross-country skiing - 'classic' style
1000hrs - 1200hrs <br><br>Learning solid technique right from the start is a game-changer for your cross-country ski journey. It makes every glide more fun, every trail more satisfying, and gives you the confidence to enjoy the sport to the fullest. We'll get you moving smoothly on your skis, and by the end of the session you'll be controlling your speed and direction as you cruise around the tracks. Classic skiing is perfect for journeys, and can lead to point-to-point adventures in unforgettable winter terrain. <br><br>Previous experience Required: Zero, but you must be prepared to be active on skis for 2 hours. Note that falling is part of learning, and you will most likely sit down at some point! This session is perfect if you have done a few days self-taught and are ready for instruction!<br><br>Meeting Point<br>Our classes meet at the ticket office at Maison Nordique, 51 Av. de la Plage, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. 8th Jan - Beginner Level - Skate Skiing
1000hrs - 1200hrs <br><br>If you're excited about becoming a skater, the best way to start is with proper instruction right from day one! With a well-structured lesson, you'll quickly pick up the right technique - saving yourself from a winter of bad habits that are hard to undo later. We'll spend the first hour mastering the skate movement, then head out on a short journey to put your new skills into action. Skating is the cross-country version of a gym workout, and it's an absolutely fantastic sport!<br><br>Previous experience Required: Zero, but you must be prepared to be active on skis for 2 hours. 11th JAN - Mountain Safety Progression Sunday
Join IFMG Guide Ulrika for a dynamic, practical day designed to boost your confidence with your avalanche safety kit + refresh the skills that matter most in the backcountry.<br>This session is ideal for those who’ve already taken part in WMC avalanche training days, or have previous experience with transceiver searches. Even if you’ve done it before, early-season practice is invaluable, skills fade, habits slip, and conditions change.
<br>Throughout the day, we’ll dig into real-world decision-making: tour planning, terrain identification, snowpack awareness, route selection, and effective group management in ski touring or off-piste environments. You’ll also take part in avalanche scenarios designed to stretch your existing transceiver skills and challenge you to work through a multi-layered rescue situation.<br>Come prepared for a full, hands-on day. <br><br>Meeting Point: TBC closer to date CHAMONIX<br>Time: 8:30 am – 4pm ish<br>Ski Level: touring skis off-piste, so a decent level is required. 13th Jan - Intermediate Level - Skate Ski Refresher
1000hrs - 1200hrs <br><br>Let's kick off the season by taking a fresh look at your skills and how we can build them up! We'll focus on body position, power, and strength to help you feel strong and efficient on your skis. We'll be working on skate 2 - the technique for gentle undulating terrain, where you'll use your core to drive those skis forward. It's fantastic for your tummy, brilliant for shaking off any festive over-indulgence, and an amasing calorie burner to start the season feeling great!<br><br>Previous experience required: For those who are already 'skaters' but want to brush up on technique. Classic skiing should feel smooth and effortless, letting you keep the movement going for kilometres at a time. If you find this tricky, join us for two hours of "making skiing easy"! You'll discover how to use your body weight and momentum to power your skis, boost efficiency, and cut down on effort - so you can enjoy every glide.<br><br>Previous experience required: For those who are already cross-country skiers, but want to brush up on technique. 24th JAN - Ice Climbing Progression Sess
With IFMG Guide Karen we’re thrilled to bring this incredible ice-climbing adventure back, new, refreshed, and ready for action!<br>Whether you’re looking to solidify the essentials or push your skills further, this day is all about building confidence, efficiency, and enjoyment on the ice.<br><br>Spend the day with our expert guide, Karen, developing your technique in a supportive and encouraging environment. If natural ice conditions are good, we’ll head out onto single-pitch routes to rack up valuable mileage. If conditions are lean, no worries, we’ll make the most of a nearby ice park, giving you the chance to try a variety of routes and styles while diving into focused skills sessions and fun technical drills.<br><br>Who’s it for?<br>Perfect for climbers who’ve tried ice climbing before and are keen to progress, practise, and get more time swinging tools on single pitches.<br><br>Ratio: 1 guide to 4 clients<br>Date: 18th January<br>Time: 7:30am – 5pm (approx.)<br>Departure location: TBC<br>Kit required: Harness, helmet, crampons, technical ice axes, gloves, hat, sunglasses, belay jacket, belay device, B3 boots.
